It is the first temple for New Caledonia, a group of islands in the southwestern Pacific Islands that are home to more than 2,500 Latter-day Saints. Nouméa, the country’s capital, has a population of about 100,000. History

Announcement
On April 6, 2025, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct the Nouméa New Caledonia Temple at the 195th Annual General Conference. It will be the second house of the Lord in the state. The temple was announced in conjunction with 14 other temples.
