Description

There are more than 1.4 million members of the Church in more than 2,100 congregations in Brazil. Belo Horizonte is the sixth-largest city and economic hub of the country.

History

History

The first known Latter-day Saint to live in Brazil emigrated from Germany in 1913. The first branch in Belo Horizonte appeared to be organized as early as 1974. The first stake organized in Belo Horizonte was created in 1981, and the Brazil Belo Horizonte Mission was organized in 1988.

Brazil’s thirteenth temple was announced by President Russell M. Nelson At the conclusion of the 191st General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, held on Easter Sunday on 4 April 2021. On 23 September 2021, it was announced that the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple will be constructed on an 11.8-acre site on Rua Professor Jose Vieira de Mendonça in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Groundbreaking Announced

On 27 March 2023 it was announced that Elder Juan A. Uceda, second counselor in the Brazil Area presidency, will preside at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple on Saturday, 17 June 2023.

The groundbreaking of the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple was presided over Elder Juan A. Uceda, second counselor in the Church’s Brazil Area presidency, on June 17, 2023. Around 500 guests attended, including Duílio de Castro, the mayor of Sete Lagoas; Natalie Oliffson, the representative of the secretary of culture of Belo Horizonte; and Álvaro Azevedo, the secretary of social service from Nova Lima.

In his dedicatory prayer on the site, Elder Uceda said, “I ask Thee, dear Father, that this place and all who live within the boundaries of the temple district enjoy special protection. And may the light of the gospel shine throughout this region. We pray that no influence will stop or delay the building of the temple and that in due time it will be dedicated as the house of the Lord.
