Missionaries arrived in England in 1837, only seven years after the Church was established. England is home to the oldest continuous congregation of the Church. On April 3, 2022, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct the Birmingham United Kingdom Temple at the April 2022 General Conference. Name Announcement

An official name announcement for the temple was made on 15 August 2022. The Temple, which had been announced as the Brimingham United Kingdom Temple, would officially be known as the Brimingham England Temple, following the already established names for the Preston England and London England Temples.[3]“Temple Update: Names for Two New Temples.” newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org, 15 Aug. 2022, newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/temple-news-names-birmingham-england-teton-river-valley. The name announcement was made in conjunction with the official name announcement for the Teton River Idaho Temple (formerly the Rexburg Idaho North Temple.)

Location Announcement

On December 18, 2023, the property for the Birmingham England Temple was announced as a 2.7-acre site at 185-187 Penns Lane where the meetinghouse for the Wylde Green Ward and the offices for the England Birmingham Mission are located.[4]”Renderings for Temples in England, Nevada and Texas,” The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints News Release, 26 Feb. 2024.

Groundbreaking Announced

The Church announced the groundbreaking for the Birmingham England Temple on 21 January 2025. The groundbreaking services for the Birmingham England Temple will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025. Elder Scott D.
