My family and I stopped by the Boston Massachusetts temple for the first time in 2011.
The temple sits on a rocky granite crest next to the freeway. A large chunk of the crest rises above the ground to the side of the temple.
The temple itself, also finished in granite, as a base course of very rough stone. As your eyes travel up the temple, the next several courses are much more finished until you get up near the top, where the inscription is. A single polished course of stone wraps around the temple where the inscription of the temple is.
On the tower, things start out finished, move to polished very quickly, and have a set of details that get more elaborately carved going up.
