The Montreal Temple was built on a low lying river bank, out of wood frame. Unfortunately this left it open to problems from high humidity, namely mold. The need arose to remove all the timber framing, leaving the metal framework for the spire and the concrete portions of the shell, and replacing everything else with steel framing. Along the way they modified portions of the temple based upon suggestions from Temple Presidents for the small temples from around the world. The exterior look was changed as well, resulting in the new and completely unique temple.
