On October 2, 2022, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct the Jacksonville Florida Temple at the October 2022 General Conference.[2]”The Church of Jesus Christ Will Build 18 New Houses of the Lord,” The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints News Release, 2 Oct. 2022, https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/october-2022-general-conference-new-temples. The temple was announced in conjunction with 17 others.

On February 20, 2024, the location for the Jacksonville Florida Temple was announced as a 6.6-acre property located at 3323 Loretto Road in Jacksonville. Render Released

Groundbreaking Announced
On 10 November 2025 the Church announced that Groundbreaking services will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026. Elder Massimo De Feo, First Counselor in the United States Southeast Area Presidency, will preside at the event. Groundbreaking
On Saturday, 24 January 2026, ground was broken for new houses of the Lord on two continents. One will be in North America, in Jacksonville, Florida, United States, and the other will be in João Pessoa, Brazil.
Elder Massimo De Feo, First Counselor in the United States Southeast Area Presidency, presided at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Jacksonville Florida Temple.
In his dedicatory prayer, Elder De Feo asked that the temple radiate light, hope and truth to all who visit or view this house of the Lord.
