On April 3, 2022, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct the Knoxville Tennessee Temple at the April 2022 General Conference. Render Released

Groundbreaking Announced

On 11 December 2023 the Church announced that the groundbreaking service for the Knoxville Tennessee Temple would be held on Saturday, 27 January 2024.[5]”Open House and Dedication Dates Announced for Temples in Mexico, the Philippines and Utah,” The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints News Release, 11 Dec. 2023.

Groundbreaking

The Knoxville Tennessee Temple groundbreaking ceremony was held 27 January 2024, with Elder Shayne M. Bowen — a General Authority Seventy and first counselor in the North America Southeast Area presidency — presiding.

In his remarks to those in attendance, Elder Bowen said, “God is bringing His work to His people so that we can enter in and worship in the holy temple, receive the saving ordinances that will allow us to return home and live in His presence as families forever.
