Logan Utah Temple Rough in

Today’s update was all about the Logan Utah Temple. I did way less structural updating than I thought I would today. Instead I worked on the texture. The Logan temple has this fantastic old stone, with an unusual mortar set. Every time I come back to this temple, I hate my texture and feel the need to redo it, trying to make it look more real. I am not sure I have it yet, but It feels much closer.

or the first time, the texture looks right. Not perfect, but the color and stone size is right. I added the main doors, and the baptistry entrance. I configured the bottom row of windows and finished the windows on the tower.

Tuesday at Logan Utah

I spent all day completely unable to get into a groove. I worked on the grounds, then suddenly was able to tweak some things on the Temple itself for about an hour before my mind completely shut down for the evening. I have to go to bed now, but you can stay up if you want. I roughed in the annex, and fixed some of the courses of sandstone (In architectural terms, a course refers to a row of stones. This temple has multiple “belt courses” which are the sandstone section of trim that surround the temple.

Fun fact that is even true if I am not too asleep yet. The intricately carved portions of this temple were made from sandstone, while the bulk of the walls are a lava rock, the darker stone. Originally the temple was covered in a white wash making it look more like Saint George. However the white wash reportedly had a bit to much red dirt in it, and instead of the temple being white, it had a slight pink tinge to it. Eventually the wash started to flake off, and the decision was made to let it, leaving the temple as we see it today.

Monday at Logan Utah

Yeah. I spent all my free time this whole day squashing and stretching my 2006 Logan Utah Temple model to make it look better. It’s almost a magical thing when I get it about right. Suddenly everything starts to pull together. It’s shorter now, and has one less set of windows on the sides. i also started to play a bit with textures.
