Monday at Campinas Brazil. Again

I showed an update on this back a month or two ago, but I added it into the roster this marathon anyway.

Details, details, details. That’s what this one was all about. The spire is done now, and most of the landscaping. I still may want to add some detail to the Accommodation Center (assuming I can find some good photos,) and I need to plant the garden. The Temple itself needs the front doors and the inscription, then it is basically done!

Friday at Cochabamba Bolivia

As always, I still need the inscription and the plants. I spent much of my time trying to sort out the entryway. I finally found a couple of good reference photos for it was able to get some of it going. Overall it does not look like I was able to get much done, but most of my time was spent trying to find references and adjust the terrain to fit. I did make the realization that this temple is likely based on the same internal floor plan as Houston Texas and Albuquerque New Mexico Temples. So that was exciting for me to figure out, as it helped me tweak a couple of the proportions accordingly.

Barranquilla Colombia Early

Saturday at Barranquilla Colombia

A couple of weeks ago the Church released a render for the Barranquilla temple. I have actually 2 renders for this temple that are as much different as they are similar. I decided to follow the one that I believe to be the most recent. It is also the lesser ornate of the two, so if it turns out I am wrong it will be easier to add detail than to take away.

Wednesday at Caracas Venezuela

And by “Wednesday” I mean “Tuesday.” Once again I put some small amount of work in here at Caracas. This one is interesting in that the property is so small it is almost impossible to find reference material for 3 of the 4 sides of the temple. I have one photo of each of those 3 sides, and it’s not quite enough to help me figure out the grounds.

Monday at Campinas Brazil

Well, this is later than I hoped it would be. I have been working late on a Christmas present after the kids go to bed, so I forget things in my sleepy haze. Here you go though. I worked on Campinas Brazil Monday. I am probably going to go to 3 a week posting, and in a sort of almost alphabetical fashion. Well, Monday was back in Brazil. I added material and worked on trying to get the terrain figured out. Here are my progressive renders:

Just for fun, here is a bonus shot showing the new stone texture at work, and some of the temple’s detail work.

Monday at Trujillo Peru

Man, I thought I had this one down good the first go round. Then I began to realize things were not lining up, and odd discrepancies were throwing everything off. I found out there is updated satellite imagery from Google. The old images were taken during the open house. the new ones are post dedication and much clearer. This helped sort some of the awkwardness, but I am concerned there may still be height issues with the tower. We will see what I come up with next go around. Here is October’s render:

And here is today’s:

Tuesday at Guayaquil Ecuador

I had some tweaking to do here today. The spire was to short and may still be. Also, I think I have some of my details to big. When you oversize the detailing, the end result is everything looks a little Fisher Price. Typically, you can do small fine details on large objects, not small ones. Inversely, for toys, details often have to be a little over sized to prevent them from breaking during production or play. So when you make the details to big in relation to the rest of the structure, it starts to look like a child’s plaything.

That aside, I got caught up in trying some new ideas for texturing instead of actually working on the model. There will be much to do when I get back around to this one. The previous render is here:

The new render is here:

Tuesday at Arequipa Peru

Update: I have been asked by the Church not to Display their renders of the Arequipa Temple until they officially unveil it/them at the groundbreaking.

As a courtesy I have removed my render as well, even though portions of it were not based upon those 2 images.

The original post, without the images follows:
