Description
Cincinnati is the third-largest city in Ohio with a population of more than 300,000. At the time of the temple announcement, there were nearly 65,000 Latter-day Saints in nearly 130 congregations in the state.
History
Kirtland, Ohio, located east of Cleveland, served as an important center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the 1830s. A temple was built at the time but was left behind when the Church relocated. The Community of Christ recently transferred ownership of the temple to the Church on March 5, 2024.
Announcement
On April 7, 2024, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct the Cincinnati Ohio Temple at the 194th Annual General Conference. The temple was announced in conjunction with 14 other temples.
