As of the announcement, Madagascar is home to nearly 13,000 Latter-day Saints in over 40 congregations. Antananarivo is the capital of Madagascar and home to more than 1.4 million people.

Announcement
On October 3, 2021, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct the Antananarivo Madagascar Temple at the October 2021 General Conference. Madagascar is home to nearly 13,000 Latter-day Saints in over 40 congregations.
The Temple was announced in conjunction with 12 other temples.

Temple Rendering
Renderings of the Antananarivo Madagascar Temple and site plan have not yet been publicly released.
Temple Site
On December 11, 2023, the location of the Antananarivo Madagascar Temple was announced as a 9.8-acre site next to a U.S. Embassy on Lalana Général Andrimahazo where the meetinghouse for the Ambohijanahary and Ambohimanarina Wards is located. The property is situated in Fokontany Andranoro, Commune Ambohibao, Antehiroka in Antananarivo.
